Maitland Knitwear - thoughts from Clive

Created by Clive one year ago
I didn’t know Christine (or Nigel) in 1971 but I knew, or should say, coveted Maitland knitwear’s skinny rib Argyle twinset featured in the glossy editorials

In 1975 I finally met Christine at a luncheon party hosted by a mutual friend, Roger Dean. Christine drove us back to Notting Hill zipping in and out of traffic in her VW Beatle; I thought, a Londoner! We became firm friends from then on.

In the 70s and early 80s  Christine, together with Nigel excelled at hosting, if not at home then stage managing luncheon parties at Country Cousins on the Kings rd., inviting a cross section of designers from fashion an television.

While we never traveled together our paths often crossed on trips to New York, Paris and Florence throughout the 80s and 90s. On one occasion, in Paris, I booked a table for two for Clive, first names are customary in Paris, Christine, arrived and asked for Hallett, she  was seated behind a lacquer screen directly behind me, we both wondered why we’d been stood up, we met as we both left the restaurant receipt in hand.

Christine and Nigel both loved their bungalow in Norwich, unfortunately distance meant we only saw each other once a year but we still chatted regularly by phone.

Christine You will be missed.
